Additional Insured Endorsements in Construction and How Different Forms Effect Coverage

In a post on the Insurance Journal Dwight Kealy  discusses the importance of knowing your sub-contractors additional insured forms. It’s very important if you use sub-contractors or if your a home-owner hiring a contractor to know how their insurance will or will not protect you.

Few key things to keep in mind:

  • Always make sure you are listed as additional insured
  • Always get the form # of the additional insured endorsement, and request a copy.
  • Discuss with your insurance broker how that form will affect you.

The below image gives a very brief summary of the different ISO forms and how they provide coverage. Some companies will use their own forms which creates additional headaches and careful review.
